8 drown during Ganesh Visarjan in Dehgam taluka

Gandhinagar: Just two days after the drowning of four people in Patan, 8 individuals were swept away in check dam over Meswo River during Ganesh Visarjan in Vasna Sogthi village of Dehgam Taluka. Of those drowned, the bodies of all eight have been recovered, in search and rescue operations that went on till late night.
Addressing the media Deputy SP, Gandhinagar, DT Gohil said, “There is Vasna Sogathi village in the Dehgam tehsil. 9 youths from the village came to the dam on Meshwo River at noon. They were bathing here when an idol of Lord Ganesh came for Visarjan. Out of those 9 people, one named Jaspal aka Munna was drowning while bathing. So, other people also came to save him. Till now we have recovered 8 bodies from here. An eyewitness has said that only 8 people drowned. So accordingly, we have recovered all the bodies. Still, the teams of SDRF and NDRF are deployed here to ensure that anyone else is not missing in this area.”

According to the reports, the fire department and local divers are continuing the search operation and have recovered eight bodies so far. Local MLA Balrajsinh Chouhan stated that the gram panchayat had alerted people, and the administration had designated a safer Visarjan area away from the check dam. However, in their enthusiasm, some youths ventured into the river, which led to this tragic accident. DeshGujarat
