Southwest Monsoon 2024 likely to withdraw from parts of Kutch around Sept 23: IMD

Ahmedabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that conditions are becoming favorable for the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from parts of West Rajasthan and Kutch around September 23. This marks the beginning of the monsoon’s retreat from the region, signaling the end of the rainy season.
The IMD bulletin said, “Conditions are becoming favourable for withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from parts of West Rajasthan and Kutch around from 23rd September.”
Meanwhile, as of this morning, the state of Gujarat has received over 125% of its average seasonal rainfall. The state recorded 1105.67 mm of rain this year, against the average of 883 mm (average from the years 1994-2023).
Kutch has received 888.90 mm of rain, which is 183% of its average rainfall, while Saurashtra got 957.63 mm, nearly 130%. South Gujarat witnessed 1934.35 mm of rainfall this season, which was also 130% of the average.
However, the East Central region received 983.33 mm of rain, which was 121% of the average, and North Gujarat got 786.49 mm, which is 108% of its average rainfall.
As of 6 AM this morning, Banaskantha, Surendranagar, Botad, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Gir Somnath are the only districts that have not yet completed 100% of their average rainfall this year. DeshGujarat
