Dwarka: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat has nabbed an Income Tax Inspector in a bribe case involving a sum of Rs. 3,000. The accused IT Inspector works at the IT office in Dwarka. A class-3 employee of the government, accused Sunilkumar Arvindkumar Meena, was apprehended after he received the bribe at the IT office in Dwarka.
According to the ACB, the complainant’s PAN card was missing, and therefore he applied online and received a second PAN card. When he found his old PAN card, which had been missing earlier, he had two PAN cards. Consequently, he approached the IT office in Dwarka for the cancellation of his new PAN card.
The accused IT Inspector informed the complainant that there could be a penalty and jail time for possessing two PAN cards. The complainant argued that he had not received any such notice and that he had appeared on his own at the IT office to have his second PAN card cancelled.
The accused IT Inspector demanded a bribe of Rs. 3,000 to prevent actions that could include a Rs. 10,000 penalty. As the complainant was unwilling to pay the bribe, he contacted the ACB, leading to the filing of a complaint and the arrangement of a trap in which the accused IT Inspector was caught after receiving the Rs. 3,000 bribe.
