Gun shot fired in air at Mandli Garba in Ognaj after scuffle between two groups

Ahmedabad: A firing incident occurred this morning at the Mandli Garba organised by CEPT, near Oganaj Circle on Sardar Patel Ring Road, during a clash between two groups.

According to information, around 6:30 AM, while people were dancing to the beat of drums at Mandli Garba, a scuffle broke out between two groups over a minor issue. As tensions escalated, security staff and bouncers intervened. During the confrontation, the security in-charge fired shots into the air from a revolver, causing people to flee. The shooters were then dragged away from the spot by bouncers.

It is learned that immediately after the firing, the police were not informed in an attempt to suppress the matter. However, as video footage and media reports of the firing surfaced, the local police reached the scene to carry out an investigation.

The PI of Sola Police Station, along with the local ACP, DCP, and Additional Commissioner of Police, arrived at the scene. CCTV footage from the event is currently being reviewed by the Sola police to investigate the cause of the fight and the details surrounding the firing. The security in-charge, Harshdeepsinh Rana, had fired the revolver into the air.

Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) for Sector 1 in Ahmedabad, Neeraj Kumar Badgujar, was among the senior police officials at the Garba site to investigate the incident. He stated that the fight between the two groups led to tensions, and the firing was done as a precaution to prevent further escalation. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and the organizers are cooperating with the investigation, he further explained.

However, it is learned that no police complaint has been registered yet, and attempts to contact the Garba organizers have been unsuccessful, as their phones remain switched off.

The security in-charge who fired shots in the air, Harshdeep Rana, is the son of M.K. Rana, who previously served as PI at Vastrapur and Danilimda Police Stations in Ahmedabad, as well as Assistant Police Commissioner in the Special Branch. M.K. Rana had been given special responsibilities by the former Commissioner of Police and retired two years ago as Gandhinagar SDPO. He is currently employed as a security officer at NFSU.

Meanwhile, This is not the first controversy surrounding CEPT’s organization of Mandli Garba; a similar incident occurred four years ago, when a brawl led to the police arresting three individuals. DeshGujarat
