Ahmedabad: A signboard collapsed near Kankaria Lake in the Maninagar area of the city on Monday night, injuring three people, including children, while they were traveling on a two-wheeler.
According to reports, 10-year-old Jiya Jain had won a gold medal in sports, and to celebrate this, Deepmala Jain (38) took her and Divyang Jain (6) on an Activa to Kankaria to have snacks. Meanwhile, a signboard installed by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) near Gate No. 1 of Kankaria Lake, close to Ichhaben ni Wadi, suddenly collapsed. As the signboard fell on their Activa, Deepmala, Divyang, and Jiya were injured. Following the incident, nearby people rushed to help. All the injured were immediately taken to LG Hospital in Maninagar by ambulance. All three suffered injuries to their left hands.
The family of the injured claimed that the negligence of the AMC led to the signboard’s collapse. Meanwhile, the city civic body, in a statement, said that it was a BRTS directional signboard that was installed in 2009. They will remove it as soon as possible and will also survey all existing boards and take appropriate actions.
The sudden collapse of the signboard has raised concerns, as the area witnesses a large crowd, including women and children, who come here for enjoyment. DeshGujarat
