Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government today announced that Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has allocated a total of 30,504 million cubic feet (MCFT) of Narmada water to provide supplementary irrigation and drinking water facilities to farmers in the North Gujarat and Saurashtra regions for Rabi season crop cultivation. This decision will benefit approximately 60,000 acres of cultivable land.

Narmada water is allocated at various stages of the year for both irrigation and drinking purposes in North Gujarat and Saurashtra through transportation pipelines based on the Narmada main canal. Today. the CM directed the allocation of this water to fill ponds and check dams, ensuring supplementary irrigation during the Rabi season.

For the North Gujarat area, 16,637 MCFT of water has been allocated through the Narmada main canal-based transportation pipeline, and for Saurashtra, 13,867 MCFT has been allocated. A total of 30,504 MCFT has been earmarked, with water allocated until March 15, 2025.

This water allocation will benefit around 60,000 acres of cultivable land through 952 lakes and the Sujalam Suflam spreading canal in North Gujarat, and 243 lakes and 1,820 check dams in Saurashtra, under the Sauni schemes. DeshGujarat
