Surat’s first indoor sports facility center to be built under Parle Point bridge

Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is set to build the city’s first sports facility centre for indoor games under the span of the flyover at Parle Point Char Rasta. The project will involve the construction of a sports facility, reading room, and cafeteria, utilizing the open and available space below the three spans of the bridge located near the famous Jani Farsan. The estimated cost of the project is ₹2.5 crores.

The city civic body stated that a similar facility is currently functioning in Silvassa, and there are plans to establish similar centres in all major cities across Gujarat. The new facility is expected to be inaugurated under the Shaheed Veer Bhagat Singh Bridge at Parle Point, in 2025.

The sports facility centre under the bridge will offer various sports activities such as table tennis, chess, carrom, air hockey, snakes and ladders, bowling, and box cricket. In addition to sports, a reading room is also planned to promote reading skills among citizens, alongside recreational activities. A cafeteria will be provided for refreshments. Other amenities will include a children’s play area, seating facilities for senior citizens, and a locker area to securely store personal belongings. Membership fee rates for the facilities will be determined in the future. DeshGujarat
