AMNS fined ₹106 crore for illegal encroachment on govt land in Hazira
February 24, 2025
Hazira: Surat district authorities have levied a fine of ₹106 crore on ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS) India, located in Hazira, for illegally encroaching on 6.30 lakh square meters of government land.
The fine was imposed after an investigation by the Mamlatdar of Choryasi revealed that the illegal encroachment had been ongoing since 1990. It was found that Essar Steel Company had established the plant and Nandaniketan township on government land in Hazira. After acquiring Essar Steel, AMNS maintained the facility, and its occupied area continued to expand. Now, district authorities have ordered AMNS to pay the ₹106 crore fine within 90 days.
Notably, the company was also fined a month ago when the Mamlatdar’s office imposed a ₹18 crore penalty for encroachment in 10 out of 18 cases filed against the company. DeshGujarat
