Vadodara traffic woes: Residents near Golden Chowkdi urge CM for intervention
March 07, 2025
Vadodara: The city’s traffic problem is worsening daily, causing long jams and forcing people to leave an hour early for work or home. Frustrated residents say congestion is rising, leading to more accidents. This persistent issue has led local residents near Golden Chowkdi, who face hours-long traffic jams daily, to write to the Chief Minister seeking intervention.
In the representation, Rameshbhai Patel highlighted that heavy traffic congestion occurs at Golden Chowkdi between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM and again from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Every day, vehicles form long queues extending three to four kilometers from the toll road, taking nearly an hour to clear. This results in a significant waste of fuel (diesel and petrol) as well as working hours. Patel also stated that the RTO and traffic police have failed to manage the situation effectively. He criticized the traffic police and administration for handling traffic in an “unscientific manner” and suggested that scientific traffic management would help eliminate congestion at Golden Chowkdi.
To address the issue, he proposed redirecting traffic during peak hours. He suggested that vehicles coming from Surat should pass over the Golden Bridge, take a U-turn from Dena Under Bridge, and allow trucks to move towards Halol from the opposite side at Golden Chowkdi. This minor rerouting during peak hours would only require vehicles from Surat to travel an additional 300–400 meters, but it would significantly ease congestion and save fuel and man-hours.
