IMD issues red alert for likely heat wave in these places of Gujarat
March 11, 2025
Ahmedabad: Heat wave conditions have been prevailing for the last few days in parts of Gujarat. Now, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its latest forecast, has issued a red alert for some districts of Gujarat, with the probability of a heat wave being very likely.
As per the IMD bulletin, a red alert has been issued for Kutch, Morbi, Surendranagar, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Porbandar, and Surat for today, as heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail in isolated pockets of these districts.
The heat wave is predicted to continue on Wednesday as well, but only an orange alert has been issued so far for Banaskantha, Surendranagar, Rajkot, and Kutch.
Maximum temperatures are very likely to remain in the range of 40-42°C over the next 2-3 days across interior parts of Saurashtra-Kutch, adjoining areas of North Gujarat, and some parts of South Gujarat. Due to this, heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail in these regions.
There will be no significant change in minimum temperatures, though a rising trend of 1-2°C is expected in the next 24 hours, followed by a likely drop of 2-3°C thereafter.
The IMD has also warned that discomfort due to hot and humid conditions is very likely to persist in the coastal areas of South Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch until March 12. DeshGujarat
