MLA Kumar Kanani Accuses Sarthana Police of ₹8 Lakh Extortion; Writes to Surat CP
March 19, 2025
Surat: MLA Kumar Kanani has written another letter, this time to the Surat Police Commissioner, alleging misappropriation of ₹8,00,000 in a trademark and copyright violation raid conducted by Sarthana Police Station on January 11, 2025. He stated that counterfeit products of a well-known company were being sold, and while the police arrested the accused after conducting the raid, they allegedly extorted ₹8 lakh from the accused and suppressed the matter.
In the letter, Kanani stated, “On January 11, 2025, the Sarthana Police Station conducted a raid to seize counterfeit liquid products of Harpic Company being sold without a license. Around 8 to 10 police personnel were involved in the raid, along with Vinodbhai Bijalbhai Sumra, a representative of Harpic Company. The raid was conducted at Rna Enterprise, during which the police personnel and the company representative allegedly colluded with the owners of Rna Enterprise and took ₹8,00,000 in exchange for not mentioning the entire stock in the FIR. The total stock in the godown was worth more than ₹20 lakh, yet only ₹3,31,200 worth of goods was officially recorded. The remaining stock was allegedly transported from Rna Enterprise’s godown to Crystal Farm near Anthem Circle, Ring Road, in five Eicher trucks with police assistance.”
The MLA has demanded that a thorough and unbiased investigation be conducted immediately, ensuring that the owners of Rna Enterprise are not pressured into silence. DeshGujarat
