Ahmedabad Civil Hospital gets its 10th skin donation; 4th such collection from home
March 20, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Civil Hospital in Asarwa received its 10th skin donation today, also marking the fourth instance where the donation was collected from the donor’s residence.
Providing details, Dr. Jayesh Sachde, head of the plastic surgery department at Civil Hospital, stated that on March 19, 2025, at midnight, the Civil Hospital Skin Bank’s helpline received a call. The request for skin donation came from the Parevda Group following the passing of 97-year-old Champaben Narayanbhai Patel in the Nava Naroda area of Ahmedabad, with the consent of her son, Kiritbhai Patel. Immediately, a medical team from the Skin Bank reached the donor’s residence and successfully retrieved the skin.
On March 18, 2025, a patient admitted to the Burns Ward of Civil Hospital underwent plastic surgery using skin obtained from the Skin Bank through such donations.
Dr. Sachde further explained that donated skin acts as a biological skin dressing, eventually falling off as the recipient’s new skin regenerates naturally. This process helps prevent protein loss and infection, which are common complications in the early stages of severe burns.
Since the establishment of the Skin Bank at Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad, a total of 10 skin donations have been recorded, including four collected from home, as confirmed by Civil Superintendent Dr. Rakesh Joshi. DeshGujarat
