Ahmedabad: Having a luxury car is a dream for many, but one such owner of a high-end Range Rover SUV is left frustrated due to no resolution of a problem in the vehicle .
Hebal Jalu, a resident of Rajkot, purchased a Range Rover SUV for ₹2.10 crore. However, instead of enjoying his purchase, he has been facing persistent issues with the car’s footstep, with no resolution provided by the service center or dealership. Despite sending the vehicle for repairs 10-12 times over the past 1.5 years, the problem remains unresolved. Several emails were sent to the company, and multiple assurances were given regarding a solution, yet the issue persists.
Frustrated by the delay, Jalu parked his car in front of an Ahmedabad-based dealership and put up posters on it, expressing his grievances and warning people against buying the car.
One of the posters reads, “Don’t Buy, Don’t buy Range Rover. They do not provide service and waste time with false promises. No solution has been provided for the manufacturing defect. The manager of the dealership, Cargo Motors, stated that “this car is not made for Indian roads.”
Another poster says, “Every time I send my car to the service center for the same problem, they fail to provide a solution. Cargo Motors has promised to repair the car for the past 18 months. We have had the worst service experience with Cargo Motors.”
Speaking to the media, Jalu said, “The company has now suggested refunding the cost of the footstep. But when the car costs over ₹2 crore and the footstep is worth ₹4-5 lakh, what am I supposed to do—accept ₹4-5 lakh and use the car without a footstep?”
Meanwhile, a company official explained that the footstep is a deployable accessory that retracts after some time. “We have resolved the issue multiple times, but the customer is understandably frustrated as he had to send the car for repairs 4-5 times. We have offered to replace the accessory and have assured him via email that if the problem persists even after replacement, we will refund the cost of the accessory, as the car is still under warranty,” the official stated.
