March 28, 2025
Gandhinagar: In a major development for people using public transport buses run by the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC), the corporation has announced a 10 percent increase in bus service fares. The new fares will be implemented at 12 am on Saturday. This decision by the ST Corporation will directly affect 27 lakh passengers across the state.
In an official press release, GSRTC stated, “The corporation has been authorized to revise passenger fares for all its services. According to this, the fare was set to increase by 68% in 2023, after 10 years since the last fare revision in 2014. However, to ease the burden on passengers, the fare increase will be implemented in phases. A 25% fare increase was implemented on 1st August 2023.”
“For the strengthening and convenience of the corporation’s transport services, the Governing Body has unanimously decided to increase fares by 10%, effective from midnight on 28th March 2025 (00:00 on 29th March 2025).”
The press note also stated, “Of the total passengers in local services, 85% (approximately 10 lakh passengers daily) travel up to 48 km. For these passengers, only a marginal fare increase of Rs. 1 to Rs. 4 will apply, minimizing the impact of the fare hike on local commuters.”
The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) provides public transport services to 27 lakh passengers, covering a distance of more than 32 lakh km daily through over 8,000 buses, the note stated.
In the last 14 months, the corporation has introduced 2,987 new BS6 buses with state-of-the-art technology for public service. These buses include sleeper coaches, luxury, semi-luxury, super deluxe, and mini buses.
Furthermore, 14 new bus stations and depots have been inaugurated in the past year, benefiting 1 lakh people daily.
For the 2025-26 budget year, the corporation plans to introduce 2,050 new buses, including 200 new AC premium buses and 10 caravan services. To further enhance transport services, the corporation is recruiting approximately 7,000 drivers, conductors, and mechanics. DeshGujarat
