Priyanka Gandhi Vadra skips AICC meeting in Ahmedabad; Congress explains why

Ahmedabad: The meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) was held today at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial in the city. The meeting was attended by 158 members, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, among others. However, party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was absent.

Responding to questions about her absence from the CWC and AICC meetings, party leader Jairam Ramesh stated that 35 members were absent from the meeting and that it was not appropriate to single out any one individual.

Replying to the same question, party general secretary (organization) KC Venugopal said Priyanka Gandhi had in advance requested the party to allow her to skip the AICC session and parliament session to attend pre-engagement in abroad, and the party had accepted her request.

Addressing the media after the CWC meeting, Jairam Ramesh said that the party passed a resolution regarding Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who started with a farmers’ agitation and played an important role in the Constitution. “The resolution aims to show the relationship between Sardar Patel and Jawaharlal Nehru, highlighting the unique jugalbandi they shared. Both were architects of modern India who fought for the country’s freedom under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. The resolution denounces claims that their relationship was strained, calling such statements false and part of a propaganda campaign,” Jairam said. DeshGujarat
