One held in Ahmedabad for selling urea fertilizer; 1188 bags seized

Ahmedabad: As farmers across the state reportedly face a shortage of fertilizers and vendors claim they are not receiving adequate supply, an illegal seller of urea fertilizer has been caught in the city.

The State Monitoring Cell (SMC) has apprehended one Jignesh Chandra Parmar for illegally selling subsidized urea fertilizer. Additionally, the authorities confiscated 1,188 bags of urea fertilizer worth ₹26.56 lakh. Meanwhile, two other accused involved in supplying the urea to companies are absconding, along with Nitin, who allegedly sent the fertilizer from Narmada. Rajan from Pandesara, Surat, who had ordered the fertilizer, is also on the run. In total, goods worth ₹34.72 lakh were seized from Jignesh Parmar.

On the other hand, long queues of farmers were seen under the scorching summer heat to obtain fertilizer. In Patan district, there is a shortage of urea during the crucial summer sowing season. Farmers have been lining up at the government-run market yard in Patan to procure fertilizer. Many have already sown expensive seeds, but the lack of urea fertilizer is hampering crop growth.
