One booked in Vapi for ‘Supporting Pakistan’

Vapi: The local police on Wednesday arrested a hairdresser employed at a prominent cosmetics brand’s salon in Vapi in a sedition case. The accused, Shahid Salmani, had allegedly made statements in support of Pakistan.

The incident came to light when a 20-second video of Shahid’s remarks, filmed by a female colleague, went viral on social media. In the clip, Shahid is heard saying, “I am Muslim Mr Shahid, Allah hu Akbar… Pakistan brought down two Indian fighter jets and is right in its stance,” while laughing. The video, recorded inside the salon, sparked outrage and calls for his identification and punishment.

Following the video’s circulation, a complaint was filed at the Vapi Town Police Station. The police took swift action and arrested the accused on Wednesday, booking him under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 192, 196, and 351(3). Investigations revealed that Shahid is a resident of Vapi and originally hails from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter. DeshGujarat
