Kutch: The Government of Gujarat, through a notification issued by the Agriculture, Farmer Welfare & Cooperation Department, has imposed restrictions on all fishing activities in the sea areas surrounding three fish landing centres in Kutch district. The restriction, effective immediately, applies to Narayan Sarovar, Jakhau, and Lakhpat fish landing centres.

The ban comes amidst rising tensions between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. Notably, all three locations are situated near the Indo-Pak border in Kutch. Narayan Sarovar, located on the Kori Creek, is just 40 km away from the international border with Pakistan, while Lakhpat is situated at the mouth of the Kori Creek, about 33 km from the Sir Creek that separates India and Pakistan. Additionally, Jakhau, located in the Gulf of Kutch, is also the closest fishing port to Pakistan.

This decision has been made under the powers conferred by Section 7(1) of the Gujarat Fisheries Act, 2003 (Guj. 8 of 2003), and the restriction will remain in effect until further orders. DeshGujarat
