Pet Rottweiler mauls 4-month-old baby to death in Ahmedabad; CCTV footage goes viral

Ahmedabad: In a tragic incident highlighting the dangers of keeping dangerous dog breeds such as Pitbulls, Rottweilers, and Dobermans as pets, a 4-month-old child was mauled to death in the Hathijan area.

The incident occurred on Monday night at Radhey Residency when a pet Rottweiler slipped out of its owner’s control in the society compound and attacked a woman, snatching the infant from her lap. The baby girl, Rishika, was severely mauled and rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. The woman holding the baby, Hina Chauhan, sustained injuries in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at LG Hospital. CCTV footage of the entire incident has gone viral on the internet. It has since emerged that the Rottweiler was not registered with the civic body, which later impounded the dog.

According to residents, Rishika’s aunt had taken her out for a walk when the Rottweiler broke free from its leash while the owner was reportedly distracted on a phone call and attacked them. Eyewitnesses stated that the dog grabbed the baby from the woman’s arms and inflicted fatal injuries. Outraged by the incident, society members submitted a written complaint to the Vivekanandnagar Police Station, demanding strict legal action. They claimed the same dog had caused trouble multiple times in the past, and previous complaints and warnings had been ignored. The Rottweiler had reportedly attacked three other individuals earlier and had previously bitten Hina Chauhan on the hand.

Later today, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) issued an official statement stated that following the incident of a Rottweiler mauling a child in Hathijan on May 12, AMC and the police initiated action against the pet dog’s owner, Dilipbhai Patel. On May 13, officials from the CNCD Department and a veterinary doctor inspected Patel’s residence at Radhey Residency but found neither the dog nor its owner present. A complaint was filed at the Vivekanandnagar Police Station for failing to register the pet and for endangering public safety. The dog was later located in Memnagar and taken into custody by AMC staff and police, who transferred it to the municipal dog shelter. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the pet owner.
