Surendranagar: The Dholi Dhaja Dam, spanning the Bhogavo River, has overflowed after widespread heavy rain in the region recently. According to data from the Narmada, Water Resources, Water Supply and Kalpasar Department, the dam, located in Wadhwan taluka, has a designed gross storage capacity of 20.39 MCM, which was achieved as of this morning.

With the dam reaching 100% storage, around 3,307 cusecs of water is being released into the canal. The dam remains on high alert as inflow continues due to incessant rains. As the largest dam in Surendranagar district, it serves as a lifeline for several villages that face water scarcity during the scorching summer months.

According to a press note issued by the Section Officer of Dholi Dhaja Dam, the dam in Surendranagar district has overflowed by 0.05 feet. As a result, residents of low-lying villages including Bhadiyad, Zoravarnagar, Khamisana, Nana Kerala, Ratanpar, Sankali, Wadhwan, Surendranagar, Shiyani, Natvargadh, and Daulatpar have been advised to avoid unnecessary movement and remain alert.

While numerous villages in Chotila, Wadhwan, and approximately 27 villages of Muli taluka grapple with water scarcity, the rainfall that arrived with the onset of the monsoon has left the dam brimming. This will aid locals in both irrigation and daily water needs. DeshGujarat
