CRPF jawan held in Surat with 22 kg Ganja
June 30, 2025
Surat: The Varachha police on Sunday arrested a CRPF jawan, Shimanchal Nahak (37), for allegedly carrying 22 kg of ganja. Originally hailing from Odisha, Nahak was caught near Khand Bazar in Varachha with a trolley bag containing the narcotics.
Acting on a tip-off about a man transporting drugs through the area, the police intercepted him. Investigations revealed that Nahak had brought the ganja from Odisha’s Ganjam district by train and arrived at Udhna railway station.
Nahak, who joined the CRPF in 2015, was recently posted at Rohini Jail in Delhi. He was relieved from duty on June 21 following a transfer to Assam. Previously, he had also served in Jammu and Kashmir. At present, he lives in Odisha with his wife and two children.
According to police, Nahak may have exploited the gap before his new posting to smuggle the drugs. Authorities are investigating whether this was his first such offence or part of a larger pattern. DeshGujarat
