5k Government textbooks found in Aravalli scrap shop; truck seized in Ahmedabad

Aravalli: A large stock of government school textbooks was recently found at a scrap shop in Malpur town of Aravalli district, and today, in a similar case, a truck carrying such books was stopped in Ahmedabad.

Acting on information received, Aravalli District Primary Education Officer Naineshbhai Dave sent the Taluka Education Officer and his team to investigate the Devnarayan scrap shop, where the books were seized after inspection.

During the inspection, around 5,000 textbooks were recovered from the scrap shop. These included both old and new curriculum books. Scrap dealer Madan Gurjar stated that the books had been bought from one Jethubhai of Limadiya in Mahisagar district and were returned to the officers.

Among the lot seized, the majority are from the old curriculum that has now been replaced, while some belong to the current curriculum. “These books are not from this academic year. We recovered the entire batch from Devnarayan Scrap, and a report will be submitted to the Director of the State School Textbook Board,” the officer said.

Meanwhile, in another case, a truck carrying free textbooks distributed by the state government was caught by Congress workers while allegedly being transported elsewhere from Ahmedabad.

Following reports of textbooks being found in scrap in Ahmedabad, the education department immediately ordered an investigation. The matter has been handed over to the Ahmedabad District Education Officer.

When the workers questioned the truck driver about the destination, he gave vague answers. It is suspected that the truck was headed to Punjab and that certain individuals may have planned to offload the new textbooks at a scrap warehouse there. Congress workers seized the truck and informed the local police about the incident. — DeshGujarat
