Gujarat bags three awards for organ donation efforts
August 02, 2025
Ahmedabad: Ahead of National Organ Donation Day, observed every year on August 3, the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) has announced its national awards, with Gujarat emerging as a winner in three categories.
The state will be honoured for Excellence in Promotion of Organ Donation, while the New Surat Civil Hospital will be recognised as the Best Non-Transplant Organ Retrieval Centre. Additionally, Ahmedabad’s Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC) will receive the award for Best Government Hospital in Organ Transplantation.
According to state health officials, Union health minister JP Nadda will present the awards. Health department officials also highlighted that sustained efforts over recent years have significantly boosted organ donations in Gujarat. In 2024 alone, IKDRC carried out 511 transplants—including kidney, liver, and pancreas procedures—marking the highest number across the country.
