Subhash Bridge RTO to launch new GJ-1A-AA vehicle registration series soon
September 19, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Subhash Bridge Regional Transport Office (RTO) will soon roll out a new vehicle registration series — GJ-1A-AA — as the existing GJ-01 double-alphabet format is close to running out of combinations.
According to RTO officials, the current format — comprising the state code (GJ), RTO code (01), and a two-letter series — is nearing its limit. Anticipating this, the Subhash Bridge RTO had sought approval for a fresh series from the Transport Commissioner on September 9. With approval granted, the RTO will now adopt a three-alphabet sequence beginning with GJ-1A-AA. However, its actual implementation may take time, as a few series (Q and Z) are still pending under the existing format.
The RTO, which registers nearly 7,500 vehicles every month, still has capacity for around 2 lakh registrations under the current series. The shift marks a major update in the city’s vehicle registration system and will be introduced once the remaining series are fully used up. DeshGujarat
