Vav-Tharad Becomes New District From Today

Banaskantha / Tharad: In a historic administrative development, Banaskantha district has officially been divided, with Vav-Tharad designated as the new district headquarters. The long-standing demand of the people of the region has finally been fulfilled, bringing relief in terms of time, money, and convenience for local citizens.

The head offices of the newly formed Vav-Tharad district are being inaugurated today in the presence of Legislative Assembly Speaker and Tharad MLA Shankar Chaudhary, who has been instrumental in advocating for the creation of the district, marked by festive celebrations and wide public participation, with people expressing gratitude to Shankar Chaudhary and the Gujarat government for this long-awaited decision.

Administrative Setup
Until the new district-level buildings are constructed, arrangements have been made to function from existing premises:

Collector’s Office – at the Narmada Corporation building

District Superintendent of Police (SP) Office – at the existing DYSP office

District Development Officer’s (DDO) Office – at the current Taluka Panchayat office

Along with the inauguration of these district head offices, the offices of newly created talukas in the region were also made operational from today.

The main celebration program was held at Rah, where a large number of citizens, public representatives, and officials were present.

A Message of Unity

On the occasion, Banaskantha District Collector Mihir Patel issued a heartfelt message to the people of both districts, emphasizing that the creation of Vav-Tharad is not a separation, but an effort to bring administrative flexibility, faster services, and governance closer to the people.

“The formation of a new district is not a division of citizens but an attempt to give priority to local needs. With the new Collectorate, SP Office, and District Panchayat Office, people of Vav, Tharad, Suigam, Bhabhar, Rah, Dharnidhar, Deodar, and Lakhni will now receive administrative services that are fast, transparent, and tailored to local needs. Though the boundaries have changed, the unity, culture, and shared spirit of Banaskantha and Vav-Tharad will always remain intact,” Patel said.
