Gujarat to launch Mobile App for liquor permits soon
November 06, 2025
Surat: Tourists visiting Gujarat from other states and abroad currently have to go through a lengthy process to obtain a liquor permit. However, in a few days, they will no longer need to stand at hotel counters or deal with paperwork, as the Gujarat government is set to launch a mobile app that will allow tourists to easily obtain a liquor license.
The app, which has already completed trial runs, is expected to go live within the next couple of weeks. It will be available in English, Hindi, and Gujarati.
Under the new system, tourists can upload identification documents such as Aadhaar, voter ID, driving licence, or passport directly through the app, make payments via UPI or card, and receive instant approval — all from their mobile phones. Once verified, users can purchase the permitted quantity of liquor from authorized outlets.
The facility will also extend to GIFT City, where health permit holders will no longer need additional authorization to buy liquor. Officials said this digital system is designed to simplify the existing cumbersome process and enhance convenience for both domestic and foreign tourists.
At present, visitors are required to visit designated liquor stores located in specific hotels, fill out physical forms, and submit documents. These forms are then forwarded by hotel staff to government officials for approval — a process that takes considerable time.
The initiative, developed after consistent feedback from tourists about the cumbersome process, aims to balance Gujarat’s strict prohibition laws with the modern convenience expectations of visitors.
