Nitin Gadkari, Gujarat CM to hold review meeting on Road, Highway conditions in State
November 26, 2025
Gandhinagar: Amid growing concerns over delays in National Highway projects and the deteriorating condition of several roads across Gujarat, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, who is on a state visit, is expected to chair a high-level review meeting in Gandhinagar this evening. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will attend the meeting along with senior state officials, NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) officials, project directors, and representatives of key contractor companies.
In recent months, construction on several national highways, motorways and greenfield corridors in Gujarat has slowed down significantly. Even newly built stretches have developed cracks and potholes prematurely, sparking widespread public dissatisfaction.
On-site review of Ahmedabad-Udaipur Highway in Himmatnagar
Before the crucial evening meeting, Gadkari inspected the six-lane Shamlaji–Motachiloda stretch of the Ahmedabad–Udaipur Highway. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and senior officials of the NHAI were also present during the visit.
Gadkari reviewed key infrastructure works, including the Motipura flyover near Himmatnagar at CH 492 and the Vehicle Underpass (VUP) near Majra at CH 524. He also assessed the overall progress of the project with a focus on construction quality, safety measures and implementation speed. Except for three road overbridges, all structures on the highway are expected to be completed by March 2026.
Following the site visit, a significant meeting is scheduled at Hotel Leela in Gandhinagar. This meeting will include officials from the state Road and Building Department as well as National Highway authorities.
CM stresses speedy completion of work.
Notably, the Chief Minister, who holds the Road and Building Department portfolio, had earlier this month issued strong warnings and instructions to government officials regarding the poor condition of roads. He has specifically ordered that all pending work be completed without delay.
Subsequently, all in-charge ministers carried out site inspections and review meetings in their respective districts, and detailed reports are to be submitted by November 30 to the Chief Minister. DeshGujarat
