Parallel Taxi Track at Surat Airport gets DGCA approval
November 27, 2025
Surat: The Parallel Taxi Track (PTT) at Surat International Airport, long completed but awaiting regulatory approval, has finally received the green light from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Airport authorities had been making representations for its approval, which has now been granted, and the local administration has welcomed the decision, which promises to significantly improve airport operations.
With passenger traffic rising rapidly at Surat Airport, the absence of a parallel taxi track has been causing delays in aircraft takeoffs and landings. Currently, flights often have to circle in the sky prior to landing because the runway cannot be cleared quickly for the next aircraft. The operationalisation of the PTT will allow aircraft to move off the runway immediately, reducing congestion and enhancing the efficiency of flight operations.
Airport officials said that once the PTT is operational, expected in one and a half months, the runway turnaround time will improve, enabling the airport to handle a larger number of flights and supporting greater international connectivity. The infrastructure upgrade is seen as a crucial step toward modernising Surat Airport and boosting its operational capacity.
With DGCA approval now in place, preparations including chart-making and operational planning have begun, and officials are confident that the new taxi track will give Surat Airport fresh momentum, easing current pressure and improving the passenger experience. DeshGujarat
