Massive fire breaks out at Bhavnagar complex housing multiple hospitals; 20 rescued

Bhavnagar: A massive fire broke out on Wednesday morning at Dev Pathology Lab in a complex located in the Kalanala area, quickly engulfing the building. Emergency personnel and locals evacuated children, elderly patients, and staff as firefighting operations were launched to douse the fire in the building, which houses several hospitals.

Smoke quickly filled the complex, which contains four to five hospitals, causing panic among patients and staff. At Nice Children Hospital, firefighters broke windows on the first floor and used ladders to safely evacuate children. Newborns were rescued carefully, wrapped in sheets along with their IV drips.

According to Fire Officer Pradyumansingh Jadeja, the fire started in the basement and spread rapidly through the building. “We have rescued people using stretchers and ladders. So far, 19–20 people, including children and newborns from hospitals in the complex, have been safely evacuated. There have been no casualties. Firefighting and cooling operations are ongoing, with more than 50 firefighters and six fire brigades deployed,” he said.

Municipal Commissioner N.V. Meena stated that the fire originated from accumulated garbage, which produced heavy smoke that entered the hospitals. He added that an investigation into the exact cause of the fire has been ordered. DeshGujarat
