Gujarat ACB Book Assistant State Tax Commissioner in Bribe Case

Rajkot: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against Bharatbhai Shamjibhai Surelia, a Class-1 officer serving as Assistant State Tax Commissioner at Ghatak-93 in Rajkot, for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹3,000 from a complainant in exchange for facilitating a GST number for a client’s factory.
According to the ACB, the incident of bribe demand took place on January 24, 2023, when Surelia allegedly sought the amount for his personal gain while processing the GST-related work. The complainant, J.M.A.L, a Police Inspector with the ACB Post at Rajkot Rural, reported that the officer abused his official position and attempted to obtain an undue advantage.
Based on the inquiry, an FIR was filed on December 4, 2025, for offences related to bribery, misuse of authority and criminal misconduct under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The alleged offence occurred at the office of the Assistant State Tax Commissioner, Ghatak-93, Rajkot. The investigation is being carried out under the supervision of Shri K.H. Gohil, In-charge Assistant Director of the ACB, Rajkot Unit.
The case is currently under further investigation.
