Gujarat CM to lay foundation stone for Surat Outer Ring Road Phase-2 on Dec 13

Surat: After being stalled for a long time, the construction of Phase 2 of the Outer Ring Road in Surat is finally set to commence. The state government has approved an initial grant of Rs 290 crore for the project, and tenders for the construction of a 10.45 km road and flyover have been issued. The foundation stone for the project will be laid by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Saturday, December 13.

CM Bhupendra Patel will visit Surat on December 13 to launch several key projects in the city. Following the inauguration of the elevated market at Surat APMC, the foundation stone-laying ceremony and inauguration of various municipal projects will take place at the Veer Narmad University convention hall, where the remaining work of the Surat Outer Ring Road will also be launched.

Recently, tenders were issued for the 10.45 km stretch of road and a flyover connecting Sachin to Surat-Kadodara Road via the Surat-Palsana Road. Out of the total 66 km of the Outer Ring Road, only this 10.45 km section remains pending. Most of the work in the first phase has been completed, and approximately 30 km of the road, now connected to National and State Highways, forms an almost-ready ring road network.

In the second phase, the tender bids came in 14% higher than the estimated cost: Rs 195 crore for the Sachin-Kadodara road and Rs 60.91 crore for the six-lane flyover. The revised cost now stands at Rs 220 crore for the road and Rs 69 crore for the flyover. With government approval for the grant, the Outer Ring Road project is now officially back on track.
