Rest Rooms to Be Set Up at 14 Government Hospitals in Gujarat
December 10, 2025
Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government will construct restrooms equipped with basic facilities for relatives of patients at 14 government hospitals across the state. Announcing the decision, Spokesperson Minister Jitubhai Vaghani said the initiative aims to provide accommodation and food facilities to family members who travel long distances for treatment at civil and general hospitals.
The decision was approved during the meeting of the State Council of Ministers chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel in Gandhinagar today. As part of the plan, the state government has sanctioned the leasing of land to the Ahmedabad-based Sevadan Foundation for the construction of these rest houses, also referred to as Ren Basera or Vishram Griha.
Vaghani said that many citizens who visit government hospitals from remote villages face difficulties due to the lack of affordable accommodation and food options in cities. “Taking serious note of this issue, the Chief Minister has adopted a sensitive and people-centric approach to ensure that relatives of patients have access to basic facilities,” he said.
The rest houses will be constructed at government hospitals in Porbandar, Godhra, Morbi (GMERS), Lunawada, Amreli, Nadiad, Veraval, Deesa, Vyara, Jamkhambhaliya, Anand, Botad and Modasa, as well as at the M.P. Shah Medical College–affiliated hospital in Jamnagar.
According to the government, the facilities will include clean and comfortable rooms, hygienic food, and drinking water. The initiative is aimed at supporting families from economically weaker sections and distant regions who often struggle during extended hospital stays. DeshGujarat
