January 03, 2026
Surat: A pet owner has approached the police seeking action against the Surat Municipal Corporation’s (SMC) market department, alleging that his pet dog went missing and may have died after being picked up by an SMC dog-catching team.
In an application to Ichhapore police, Sunilkumar Singh stated that on December 29, 2025, his female Pomeranian was allegedly caught from the lawn outside his house by an SMC team while he was away at work. He claimed CCTV footage showed two youths netting the dog and taking it away in an SMC vehicle without informing residents.
Singh said SMC officials later admitted that contractual staff had mistakenly picked up the pet. He has sought registration of an offence against those involved.
Ichhapore police stated that an inquiry is underway to ascertain the facts, adding that it is not yet clear whether the pet is alive or dead. DeshGujarat
