Palghar: Authorities have launched an investigation into unusual churning and bubbling of seawater reported off the Gujarat coast.

As per news reports, the phenomenon was first noticed by fishermen from Palghar district, who captured videos showing large patches of seawater in continuous motion, with visible bubbling across the surface.

Officials termed the occurrence rare and potentially hazardous. Possible causes under examination include seabed gas emissions, underwater geological activity, or leakage from undersea pipelines, given the area’s proximity to major shipping routes and fishing zones.

Vivekanand Kadam, head of the Palghar District Disaster Management Cell, told PTI that specialised marine and industrial agencies have been asked to conduct a detailed probe.

The district administration is coordinating with marine authorities to determine whether the disturbance is due to natural geological shifts or an industrial-related incident.

As a precautionary measure, fishing boats and vessels have been advised to exercise extreme caution while operating near the affected area.
