Murder-Suicide of Husband-Wife in NRI Tower Vastrapur in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: An incident has come to light in which a husband and wife died in a suspected murder-suicide at a residence in NRI Tower in the Bodakdev area of the city. A revolver was recovered from the crime scene.

Preliminary findings suggest that the husband allegedly shot his wife and later committed suicide using the same revolver. The couple had been married just two months ago and it was second marriage of Yashrajsinh. One version suggests, Yashrajsinh could have mistakenly and not deliberately fired at his wife, because he himself called 108 emergency service to seek ambulance.

The deceased have been identified as Yashrajsinh Gohil (33) and his wife, Rajeshwariba Jadeja (30). Gohil is a relative of a prominent Congress leader.

According to available details, Yashrajsinh shot his wife and called the 108 emergency service(at 11.45 pm), after which he committed suicide post 108 team’s visit. The revolver was a licensed weapon.Police is investigating into this. Yashrajsinh reportedly was class-2 staffer in the State government arm Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB).

Gujarat Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi told media persons, “Late Yashrajsinh (Yashkumarsinh Gohil Dy. Executive Engineer at Gujarat Maritime Board) , the nephew of Rajya Sabha member and Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil, had recently passed the departmental examination of the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) and had become an officer. He was also preparing for the UPSC examination.

Both husband and wife had attended a dinner at a relative’s place. Yashrajsinh had a habit of handling a revolver, and an accidental discharge struck his wife in the neck. He immediately informed the 108 emergency service. However, the 108 team faced difficulty in locating the exact address, so Yashrajsinh went out to receive them.

After the 108 team declared his wife dead, Yashrajsinh committed suicide. The 108 personnel even tried to stop him. Yashrajsinh’s mother was also living with her son and daughter-in-law.

The couple was planning to travel abroad after the renewal of their passports. Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil is in deep shock. Yashrajsinh had two hobbies—keeping a revolver in his possession and driving vehicles at high speed—for which Shaktisinh Gohil would often scold him. Yashrajsinh was a bright and happy persons.
