Amrit Bharat push–pull train to undergo high-speed trial on Ahmedabad-Mumbai section
January 23, 2026
Ahmedabad: Following approval from the Railway Board, Indian Railways will conduct a high-speed confirmatory oscillograph car run of the new Amrit Bharat push–pull train on the Ahmedabad–Vadodara–Surat–Mumbai Central section on January 23 and 24, 2026.
During the trial, the train will be operated at a maximum speed of 130 kmph to assess its performance and safety parameters under semi–high-speed conditions.
The 22-coach non-AC LHB Amrit Bharat push–pull rake was delivered to Sabarmati on January 21 and 22, 2026. Subsequently, the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) technical team installed advanced instrumentation to measure key performance indicators such as acceleration, braking efficiency, lateral and vertical oscillations, track interaction, and overall train stability.
In addition, detailed inspections were carried out covering coach fitness, coupling systems and safety parameters.
According to railway officials, the semi high-speed trial is scheduled to commence at 9 am on January 23, with the train running from Ahmedabad to Mumbai Central, followed by the return trial on January 24 at 9 am from Mumbai Central to Ahmedabad.
During the trial runs, the train will be given a through path to enable it to attain speeds of up to 130 kmph in various block sections. However, officials clarified that all permanent and temporary speed restrictions will be strictly followed.
The Amrit Bharat rake operates under a push–pull configuration, with locomotives attached at both the front and rear ends. This arrangement enhances traction efficiency and significantly reduces time lost during direction reversal at terminal stations.
For the trial, drivers, guards, crew inspectors (CLI), traffic inspectors (TI), permanent way inspectors (PWI), carriage and wagon (C&W), and signalling and telecommunications (S&T) staff certified for 130 kmph operations have been specially deployed.
