Over 12 kg Hydroponic Marijuana Seized at Ahmedabad Airport; Four Held

Ahmedabad: Customs officials at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport seized more than 12 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana on Sunday from four passengers who arrived from Bangkok, Thailand.

Based on specific intelligence, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at SVPI Airport intercepted four individuals—three from Punjab and one hailing from Gujarat—who landed in the city via Kuala Lumpur on Malaysia Airlines flight MH-208.

During detailed scrutiny of their baggage and personal searches, officials recovered a green-coloured substance concealed inside the luggage. Preliminary tests confirmed the substance to be marijuana, weighing 12.4 kg and having an estimated market value of around ₹12.5 crore.

The four passengers were subsequently arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The investigation is ongoing to determine whether this was a standalone smuggling case or part of an organised narcotics racket.

Hydroponic marijuana is cultivated using a soil-free farming technique in which plants receive nutrients through water-based solutions. DeshGujarat
