Ahmedabad: A Class 6 student at a private school in the Maninagar area allegedly added a chemical substance to a classmate’s water bottle after a verbal dispute, sparking concerns about student safety on school premises.
Ahmedabad city district education officer Rohit Chaudhary confirmed that the incident occurred at Durga School about four days ago. He said the two students had argued earlier, and one student, allegedly holding a grudge, slipped a chemical tablet into the other’s water bottle while it was kept inside the classroom. It is learnt that the tablet was naphthalene, which the student had brought from home.
The affected student unknowingly drank some water but stopped after noticing a strange smell. Soon after, the child began vomiting, prompting teachers to alert the school management. The student was given medical treatment.
Following the incident, the school reviewed CCTV footage, which reportedly showed a student mixing a tablet into the bottle. Both students were questioned, and their parents were summoned to the school.
Officials said the child’s condition is stable and no further complications were reported. The parents later resolved the matter mutually and chose not to file a police complaint.
The incident adds to rising concerns over student safety in Ahmedabad schools, following recent cases of violence involving students in the city. DeshGujarat
