One Unit Shut at Naroda GIDC Over Toxic Gas Emissions; 7 Complaints in Two Years

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government received a total of seven complaints over the past two years regarding the alleged release of toxic gas at night by chemical manufacturing units operating in the Naroda GIDC estate in Ahmedabad district.
In a written reply in the Assembly, the Environment Minister stated that as of December 31, 2025, one complaint was received in 2024 and six complaints in 2025 concerning the alleged emission of hazardous gases by units in the Naroda GIDC area.
Following these complaints, inspections were carried out at the concerned units. Based on the findings, action was initiated under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 against the units in question:
M/s Pashupati Industries, Naroda GIDC, was issued a closure order. An environmental damage compensation of Rs 2 lakh was imposed, and a bank guarantee of Rs 2 lakh was obtained.
M/s M.S. Chemical & K.S. Chemical, Naroda GIDC, was inspected; however, no violations were observed under the Air Act.
M/s Rajiv Udyog, Naroda GIDC, was served a show-cause notice under the provisions of the Air Act.
Naroda Enviro Projects Ltd (CETP), Naroda GIDC, was also issued a show-cause notice.
M/s Dishman Carbogen Amcis Ltd, Naroda GIDC, was given written directions after certain deficiencies were observed.
In two other instances of complaints pertaining to the Naroda GIDC estate, no air pollution was detected during site visits, the government informed the House.
The government said that necessary regulatory measures are being taken in response to complaints to ensure compliance with environmental norms in the industrial estate.
