AMC Standing Committee Clears Rs. 2500 Crore Works Ahead of End of Current Term

Ahmedabad: The Standing Committee of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Thursday approved development works worth around ₹2,500 crore across the city, including major infrastructure projects such as the Naroda–Narol Iconic Road, renovation of Subhash Bridge, junction development, and a new Lotus Garden.

Addressing the media after the Standing Committee meeting on March 5, Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani said the approvals were among the final major decisions taken before the term of the current elected wing concludes on March 10.

He said development projects worth about ₹600 crore related to roads were approved, along with several drainage and water supply works. The projects are aimed at accelerating Ahmedabad’s infrastructure development and preparing the city for future global events such as the proposed 2030 Commonwealth Games.

Subhash Bridge Renovation Approved

The committee approved a ₹240 crore project for the renovation and strengthening of Subhash Bridge, which was earlier closed due to structural damage.

Mirant Parikh, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of AMC’s South West Zone, said the bridge is a crucial traffic corridor for the city and was closed earlier as a precautionary measure after damage was detected.

“The project involves demolishing the existing superstructure and constructing a new one along with strengthening works,” Parikh said.

The bridge repair is expected to take around nine months, after which it will be reopened to traffic. In addition, two new lanes will be constructed alongside the bridge to ease traffic congestion, a process expected to take around 24 months. The total tender for the work is estimated at ₹232 crore.

Naroda–Narol Iconic Road and Junction Development

Among the major road infrastructure projects approved is the Naroda–Narol Iconic Road. The committee also cleared the development of 25 additional traffic junctions in the city. Earlier, 100 junctions had already been approved for redevelopment.

According to Dani, these projects aim to improve traffic flow and urban mobility across Ahmedabad.

Lotus Garden in South Bopal

The committee also approved the construction of a Lotus Garden in the city, inspired by the lotus theme. The garden will feature replicas of flowers representing all states of India and is intended to become a unique recreational and tourist attraction.

Dani said the garden is planned to enhance the “happiness index” of citizens by creating more public leisure spaces in the city.

AI-Based Complaint System

AMC has also approved the upgrade of its CCRS complaint redressal system, accessed by citizens through the helpline number 155303. The system will now be developed as an AI-based platform.

Under the new system, complaints will be monitored through before-and-after photographs of the resolved issues to improve transparency and accountability. Dani said AMC will become the first municipal corporation in the country to introduce an AI-based complaint management app.

Other Civic Works

Apart from these projects, the Standing Committee approved multiple development works across city wards, including the construction and improvement of community halls, Urban Health Centres (UHCs), bridges, footpaths, and heritage building upgrades. About ₹250 crore has been allocated for the restoration and improvement of several public and heritage buildings, including those at Gujarat University and L.D. Engineering College.

Dani said the approvals for projects worth more than ₹2,500 crore would further accelerate the pace of urban development in Ahmedabad. DeshGujarat
