Gujarat Medical Council Suspends 3 Doctors
March 14, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Medical Council (GMC) has suspended the licences of three doctors from Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Gir Somnath in separate cases of misconduct, misrepresentation of qualifications and alleged medical negligence. The suspensions range from six months to one year.
Dr Bhargav Patel, who runs a multispecialty hospital in the Science City area of Ahmedabad, has been suspended for six months for practising as an MD (General Medicine) despite holding a foreign degree equivalent only to MBBS. He is also facing a separate inquiry for allegedly using a gynaecologist’s GMC licence to obtain LIC empanelment using forged stamps and signatures.
Dr Manoj Sida of Rajkot has also been suspended for six months for practising as an MD (General Medicine) with a foreign degree equivalent to MBBS and for alleged irregularities in medical records submitted for an insurance claim.
In the third case, the licence of Dr Akshay Hadiyal, a gynaecologist from Gir Somnath, has been suspended for one year after a probe found medical negligence, including the absence of an anaesthetist during surgery, failure to follow post-operative protocol and non-cooperation with the inquiry. Three patients died during pregnancy or childbirth at the hospital, after which the district health authorities ordered an inquiry and submitted the report to the GMC.
The decisions were taken during GMC committee meetings held in January and February under the chairmanship of Dr Nitin Vora, according to an official release by executive council member Dr Mahesh Patel. DeshGujarat
