Ahmedabad Metro Recorded Highest-Ever Ridership on T20 World Cup Match Day

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar Metro Rail service has consistently recorded a sharp surge in passenger footfall during major sports and entertainment events held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, according to data released by the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC).
As per GMRC data, the highest passenger journey count was recorded on 18 February 2026 during the ICC T20 World Cup match between India and the Netherlands, when 221,066 passengers travelled by metro.
The second-highest ridership was recorded during the Coldplay concert on 25 January 2025, with 216,470 passengers, followed by the ODI match between India and South Africa on 19 December 2025, which saw 213,438 passengers using the metro network.
During the IPL Final between RCB and PBKS on 3 June 2025, the metro recorded 213,338 passenger journeys, while the ICC T20 World Cup match between New Zealand and South Africa on 14 February 2026 saw 204,337 passengers.
Other major events that witnessed heavy metro usage include:
- GT vs SRH IPL match (02 May 2025) – 197,574 passengers
- Coldplay concert (26 January 2025) – 194,613 passengers
- ICC T20 World Cup match South Africa vs West Indies (26 February 2026) – 193,162 passengers
- India vs England ODI (12 February 2025) – 192,253 passengers
- GT vs MI IPL match (29 March 2025) – 183,618 passengers
The data shared by GMRC highlights the growing dependence on the Ahmedabad Metro during large-scale events at the Narendra Modi Stadium, helping reduce traffic congestion and ensuring smoother movement of spectators across the city.
Officials said that special ticket arrangements, increased train frequency, and extended service hours during such events have played a key role in efficiently managing high passenger volumes. DeshGujarat
