Ahmedabad: Directors of Rakhial-based Gujarat Bullion Refinery Ltd have been booked for allegedly cheating a jewellery firm of silver worth around ₹34 lakh, police said.
According to a complaint filed at Satellite police station by Mayur Barot, showroom manager of Arvindbhai Bechardas Jewellers (AB Jewellers) near Shivranjani Cross Road, the firm had sent 81,296 grams of old silver to the refinery on December 11 for purification. The refinery was expected to return 71,986 grams of pure silver, but only 38,836 grams was returned, leaving 33,132 grams unaccounted for.
Despite repeated follow-ups, the remaining silver was not returned. The accused allegedly issued cheques as payment assurance, but the cheques were dishonoured on deposit.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust against Nitin Kansara, Jay Kansara and Dilip Patel, directors of the refinery, and started an investigation. Officials said transaction records, refinery receipts and cheque details are being verified. DeshGujarat
