Locals Allege Religious Conversion Activities at Event Honouring Retd CRPF Jawan in Navsari

Navsari: Tension prevailed in Sara village of Vansda taluka after allegations surfaced that religious conversion activities were being carried out during a programme organised to honour a retired CRPF jawan.

According to villagers, the event was held on Tuesday from 6 pm to 11 pm to felicitate a local resident who recently retired after serving in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for 22 years. However, some locals alleged that attempts were made to influence tribal residents to convert to Christianity during the programme.

The allegations led to protests by a section of villagers, who also claimed that the organisers had not obtained prior permission from the administration for holding the gathering. Objections were also raised against Pastor Daniel Shinde, a resident of Maharashtra, who was present at the event, locals said.

As the dispute escalated, people from different groups gathered at the spot, creating a tense situation in the village. Police personnel rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control after holding discussions with both sides.

Villagers later submitted a written application at the local police station, demanding an inquiry and action if any illegal activity was found.

According to local sources, the programme included prayers and thanksgiving by members of the Christian community, following which disagreements arose among villagers, leading to a face-off between two groups. Police said the situation is currently under control and further inquiry is being carried out. DeshGujarat
