Western Railway to Set Up Rail Coach Restaurant at Another Gujarat Station
April 02, 2026
Veraval: In a move aimed at enhancing passenger amenities and offering a unique dining experience, the Western Railway (WR) has proposed the development of a rail coach restaurant at Veraval Railway Station in Gujarat.
For this, the Bhavnagar Division of WR has invited an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the development and operation of the rail coach restaurant at the station. The project will be offered on a 10-year contract basis, providing an opportunity for private players to participate in station-based hospitality services.
According to the advertisement, a total land parcel of 416.50 square metres has been earmarked for the project within the station premises. The concept involves converting decommissioned railway coaches into themed restaurants, a model that has gained popularity at several railway stations across India.
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to upgrade station infrastructure and diversify non-fare revenue streams, while also improving the overall travel experience for passengers and visitors.
Notably, Veraval station records significant footfall due to its proximity to Somnath Temple. Key trains such as the Vande Bharat Express, Somnath Superfast Express, and Saurashtra Janta Express serve the station.
Meanwhile, in Ahmedabad, a rail coach restaurant is currently under construction at Ambli Railway Station and is expected to open soon for public. This will be the first such initiative in the Ahmedabad Division, following similar facilities already operational at stations such as Bandra Terminus, Andheri, Borivali, Ratlam, and Rajkot.
