Devbhumi Dwarka: Unseasonal rain and thunderstorms lashed parts of Saurashtra, particularly Dwarka district, on Thursday, validating the forecast issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

A sudden change in weather conditions turned a typical summer day into a monsoon-like situation, with rainfall reported from early morning in Dwarka city, Okha, and Mithapur.

The untimely showers, locally referred to as Maavthu, have raised concerns among farmers, who fear damage to standing crops. With cloudy conditions persisting since dawn, the rainfall has come at a critical stage for agriculture, triggering anxiety over potential losses.

The weather disruption also affected pilgrims visiting the Dwarka temple on the occasion of Poonam. Thousands of devotees from across the country faced inconvenience due to rain and thunderstorms.

The IMD had issued a short-term alert predicting rainfall within a three-hour window, which materialised across the district. While the showers brought brief respite from the heat, authorities are monitoring the situation as unseasonal weather continues along the coastal belt. DeshGujarat
