Tata Power Restarts 4,150 MW Mundra Plant After 9-Month Shutdown
April 02, 2026
Mumbai: Tata Power has restarted operations at its 4,150 MW Mundra thermal power plant after a shutdown lasting nearly nine months, the company said in a regulatory filing on Wednesday.
The plant, run by its subsidiary Coastal Gujarat Power Ltd, had been non-operational since July 2, 2025, resulting in continued financial losses during the downtime.
Located in Kutch, Gujarat, the Mundra facility is among the country’s largest coal-fired power stations, with five units of 800 MW each. It supplies electricity to several states, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana.
Operations have resumed following the signing of supplementary power purchase agreements (PPAs), notably with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd.
The Gujarat cabinet had cleared the revised agreement last month, enabling the plant’s revival, while similar arrangements are being negotiated with other states.
The development comes amid efforts by the government to boost power generation to meet rising electricity demand. DeshGujarat
