Surat Diamond Bourse to Become Central Hub for Rough Diamond Trade; Import Process to Be Consolidated
April 03, 2026
Surat: In a significant development for the diamond industry, rough diamond traders have decided to centralize import and trading activities at the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB).
A meeting of rough diamond traders was held on April 2, 2026, at the Surat Diamond Bourse, where it was unanimously resolved that all traders will now carry out imports and trade rough diamonds exclusively through SDB. The move aims to consolidate trading operations at a single, secure, and efficient location.
During the meeting, prominent trader Upeshbhai Shah shared his positive experience after inaugurating his office at SDB on March 18. He highlighted the business advantages and improved operational efficiency, which were well received by fellow traders.
The initiative is also being extended to traders currently operating through online platforms. Several large Surat-based companies engaged in online rough diamond trading have expressed interest in shifting their operations to the Surat Diamond Bourse.
Industry leader Laljibhai stated that centralising all activities—from import and trading to tendering—at one location will significantly enhance security, transparency, and efficiency in the sector.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi will be honoured at the Surat Diamond Bourse on April 4, 2026, at 5:00 PM. On the occasion, many businessmen are expected to announce the opening of their offices at SDB, further strengthening its position as a unified trading hub. DeshGujarat
