Surat RTO’s AI-Based Driving Test Track Nears Launch; 1,000 Trial Tests Completed

Surat: The AI-enabled driving test track at the Surat Regional Transport Office (RTO) is likely to become fully operational next week. This comes after the RTO conducted trial runs on this modern driving test track. Around 1,000 tests for two-wheelers and four-wheelers were completed using the AI system.

The data from these trials was submitted by the implementing agency and verified by the department, following which approval has been granted to make the AI-based track fully functional. Training for RTO inspectors on operating the AI system is scheduled for Monday, April 6.

CCTV infrastructure has already been installed and repair work on the driving track has been completed. However, integration with the vehicle software is still pending and is expected to be completed within the next two to four days. Officials indicated that the AI track will be launched once this process is finalised.

Once operational, the AI-enabled system is expected to significantly reduce waiting time for two-wheeler driving tests by up to one month, as tests will be conducted simultaneously on two tracks.

The introduction of the AI-based testing system will help curb malpractice during driving tests. In recent times, instances of irregularities and alleged collusion involving touts and shortcuts in the testing process have been reported. Despite restrictions, agents have continued to operate around the RTO premises.

Officials believe that with automated, technology-driven testing and CCTV monitoring, such practices will be effectively checked, ensuring greater transparency and fairness in the driving licence process. DeshGujarat
