Congress Declares Bhrugurajsinh Chauhan as Candidate for Umreth By-Election

Umreth: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has announced Bhrugurajsinh Pratapsinh Chauhan as its candidate for the upcoming by-election to the Umreth Assembly constituency in Gujarat.

The candidature was approved by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, according to an official statement.

Chauhan holds M.A. and M.Ed. degrees and has held several organisational roles within the party. He currently serves as Coordinator of the GPCC Central Zone (2025 onwards) and was a Pradesh Pratinidhi in the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) from 2020 to 2025. He has also served as PCC in-charge for multiple Assembly segments, including Nadiad, Mahudha, Thasra, Galteshwar, Morva Hadaf, and Karjan during previous elections.

At the grassroots level, Chauhan has served three consecutive terms as President of the Umreth Taluka Panchayat between 2000 and 2015. He has also been associated with organisations such as Mahi Katha Vikas Manch, Akhil Gujarat Kshatriya Manch, and Ahima Seva Sahkari Mandali in various leadership roles.

Voting for the Umreth by-election will be held on April 23, 2026, while the counting of votes and declaration of results are scheduled for May 4, 2026.

The by-poll was necessitated following the demise of sitting BJP MLA Govindbhai Parmar, which led to a vacancy in the constituency. DeshGujarat
